Oh Sweet Child!
© Shilpa Sandesh,
My eyes rested on a little child,
A rustic self,
and a bundle of delight,
Exuberant and euphoric;
Curious, agog, inquisitive,
the tiny tot bent down on his knees,
Seeking and striving to envisage,
what the billy was doing!
Oh sweet child!
That is but a reflection,
An image
Of your mother and you;
She, who has nurtured you,
with her milk,
with her blood,
with her sweat,
leaving aside,
her sleeps and her rest;
Oh sweet child!
Let your innocence be forever,
Let that novelty be forever,
Let those glittering eyes
Be filled with demure forever,
Let not the world outside,
Bury the purity of your heart,
Of your beauty inside;
And I pray for that One Spirit,
God, personified in mother,
Be always with you,
Be at your side forever!
