Hallucinations Of A Love-struck Heart

(c) Shilpa Sandesh

As if on an instant impulse,
Eyes open wide,
No signs of slumber,
Or was there no sleep!
I am still perplexed,
The right palm felt the warmth,
Warmth of an omnipresence,
Stings in the heart,
A thousand needles piquing,
And then a tear emerges,
And tears, never-ending,
As if to fill the Nile;

The prickles of needles,
Are the daggers in my sweating frame,
And the ascetic lover within me,
Propels this body to rise,
Above all that is perceptible to material eyes,
In the orb,
That is beyond the magnitude,
Of the substantial souls,
Tears flow like blood,
As the Nile turns from blue to red;

Eyes open,
Were they shut! The predicament deepens,
This form, this being,
It isn't living for the moment,
As I am nothing,
A torso of sand,
Suspended in the immeasurable universe,
Like the planets, stars or asteroids;

I am choking in the material air,
I breathe free in the heavenly sphere;

Breaths touch my cheeks,
Stunned, eyes open again,
As I discover the sublime aura,
Which is your embrace,
Your breaths, caressing my face,
Your arms, like the surrounding stars,
Your eyes, like two meteors,
Falling into me, Your earth,
And a smile escapes my lips;

A shard digs into my spine,
And the soul falls,
Immersing back into the Reddened Nile,
Gasping again,
Bewildered to the extremes,
Confused and puzzled,
I live,
The hallucinations of my love-struck heart.............
